Top level Exec Bozoma Saint John leaves Apple for Uber

Looks like Uber is finally able to score big amid months of craziness and lawsuits!

Bozoma Saint John will be leaving her role as head of global consumer marketing for Apple Music and Beats Music, to join Uber as chief brand officer.

“Boz has a long track record of successfully creating emotional connections between people and the products they love,” Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said in a statement to Fortune. “Her creativity and deep understanding of consumers will allow us to build the same love and appreciation for Uber’s brand as we’ve built for Uber’s service.”

I think it’s incredible to see a women of color make such a power move. But Saint James is walking in to a mess! Uber is currently under fire for racial issues, and embroiled in a lawsuit over the suicide of a black engineer.

Saint John told Recode that she’s been given the freedom to define her new role, that of chief brand officer.

“I know what I’m walking into,” she told the blog. “I think it’s a really exciting time to tell the story well. Certainly there have been lots of things that have been swirling around [about] Uber, but I’m interested in telling the story about the service and what is happening from the brand standpoint.”

Sounds like Saint John knows about the calamity she is walking into, and she’s ready to put in the work! But needless to say, this should be very interesting.
